Visits from NITARP alumni

Published: July 9, 2019

During the Dust Mights Summer Visit, three different NITARP student alumni came to share where they are now, and how NITARP influenced them.

Dana Jones NITARP 2016/7. Astrophysics major at University of Pennsylvania. She wanted to do research on LIGO and reached out to the LIGO team at Caltech and they hired her as a summer intern. She is working on modeling gravitational waves coming from the rotation of slightly non-spherical neutron stars. She specifically said that the NITARP experience helped her to decide on astrophysics as her major.

Emily Zhang NITARP 2016/7. Astrophysics major at Columbia University. She got summer research funding support from Columbia and chose to see if there were opportunities at Caltech since she had been here as a part of NITARP. She is working with a post-doc named Murray Brightman as part of the NuSTAR team looking for high redshift X-ray bright AGN.

Miles Konstantin NITARP 2008/9. BS Applied Physics from RPI 2015. He is now working in Los Angeles for actor and musician Childish Gambino (aka Donald Glover who starred in the TV show "Community" and as Lando Calrissian in the Han Solo movie) as his creative technical director. Miles supervises web presence for the singer as well as helping create immersive live shows like the recent Pharos dome concert, which included astronomy images: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTAW0i7NSoo

The application period is now closed for NITARP 2025. We will release our selection for the 2025 class at the 2025 January AAS.
