December 2015 updates for Ms. Novatne

Published: December 31, 2015

Ms. Novatne writes:

I am working with Napa Valley College, Sonoma State University and Fresno State University on a NASA funded project to develop curriculum  and teach classes to community college professors (about how to teach the student course) and students about launching unmanned aerial vehicles (mostly small rockets) with payloads that collect and download atmospheric data during ascent and descent.  The students will then analyse the data, and present it at a future AAS meeting. Reedley College is a core institution, I'm it's PI.  NVC is the lead institution - NASA insisted that the CC PI have a Ph.D.  There will be one fortunate student from each core institution (4 of these, RC is one) and the 12 pilot CCs - all located here in CA - who receive an internship with NASA, including a generous stipend.

Our project is called "Rising Data".  I think it's pretty cool....rocket science 101!

I'm pretty sure that since my involvement with NITARP tipped the scales in our proposal a bit towards us being funded.  Thanks again for having me on the team.

The application period is now closed for NITARP 2025. We will release our selection for the 2025 class at the 2025 January AAS.
