Mr. Taylor is reviewing the guide to Infrared Astronomy and rereading the Galaxies in the Universe textbook. To prepare students with background on the project he had them learn to analyze the spectra of galaxies with active nuclei. They used data from the FIRST survey and Graphical Analysis. Using line value ratios they determined the redshift, velocity, distance, and luminosity. On May 23, 2006 Mr. Taylor presented the project to the science faculty at South Anchorage High School. Eleven teachers were present. He will be sharing the project in July with teachers at a space physics workshop at UAF in Fairbanks Alaska and will be sharing during the science teacher inservice in August for the Anchorage School District.
